Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson set a franchise record Sunday. On Monday, he received First Star honors from the NHL for the past week, with Lightning forward Teddy Purcell being named Second Star and Stars goaltender Kari Lehtonen earning Third Star.

Mats Sundin's familiar No. 13 has been raised to the rafters at the Air Canada Centre by the Maple Leafs, according to an ESPN.com report. The longtime captain had his number officially retired in a pregame ceremony on Saturday night before the Maple Leafs faced the Canadiens.

There should be no doubt which player earned First Star honors for the past week. After all, when you become the first person in over 23 years to record eight points in a single game and record a point on 11 straight goals by your team, as Oilers forward Sam Gagner accomplished in a two-game stretch, there isn't much anyone else can do to top you. Brad Boyes and Jason Pominville scored shootout goals, and Buffalo rallied from an early 3-1 deficit to beat the New York Islanders 4-3 on Saturday night. The win gave Miller 235 career victories, breaking a tie with six-time Vezina Trophy winner Dominik Hasek for the most in franchise history.
